I cant download updates for my clients because windows update is no more. They have a new service called SUS, but it doent work on a domain controller and I only have on server. And that one server is a domain controller. With 30 machines, I dont want to be going to each one running updates all the time. Any solutions out there?

how about downloading the Automatic Updates Client and publishing it via Group Policy? It's already in .MSI format...

I have a W2k Server set up with AD and SP3 installed. SP3 includes a new administrative template (wuau.adm) that can be added in a GPO that allows you to configure your client machines for automatic downloading AND scheduling of windows update. I believe this template can be download separately as bronto mentioned. I think it comes with the automatic updates client. My client machines are Win XP Pro and they have the newer update client installed. If you have 2000 clients download the automatic update client and publish it via Group Policy. I have mine scheduled to check for updates every Sunday and I schedule the updates (if there are any) for 3:00 am in the morning. If the installed updates require a reboot it will do it even if the machines are logged into a non-admin account.

You can also try using HFNetChkLT or HFNetChkPro. The Pro version is expensive, to say the least, but it is worth it.

The LT version is free, and limits you in the ways you can push patches to clients. Come December they are saying that they can push Office patches as well!
