Windows cannot determine the user or computer name. Return value (1722

My machine keeps freezing up on me, mostly when i try to print.
I updated my norton virus definition and scanned for virus and found none
I looked in my event view and found several entries saying "Windows cannot
determine the user or computer name. Return value (1722)." Does anyone know
what this mean or if it's whats making my machine crash. I'm running
win 2000 professional and i've used spybot S&D nothing found. Can someone please help.

These errors can be the result of a corrupted computer account for ComputerName.
To fix the problem:

1. Join the computer to a workgroup named WORKGROUP.

2. Restart the computer.

3. Join the computer to the domain.

4. Restart the computer.

I have tried this before these instructions but still I still get this error? Is there anything else I can do?

I got this problem two days ago too. And I tried the disjoin and join solution too, but didn't work. The problem came the same time when Telus cable's filtering out of some ports that include 80 and 25. I am not sure if they are related.

I solve my problem by adding ip servername in the hosts file under system32/drivers/etc. I think it caused by the port filter of Telus cable/
