Always looking for a free tftp server which runs as a service?

Microsoft gives you one : the tftpd.exe is on the WinXP and Win2003 installation CD but Microsoft use it only for special purposes.

I have created a rar file containing the tftpd.exe file, a batch file to install the tftpd.exe as a service, a .reg file you need to change the default path to were the files are located and two links to start and stop the tftp service from the start menu.

You can find the service in the service control panel named as TFTP Daemon. Goto "Start", "Run", type "services.msc" and press enter then scroll down to the TFTP Daemon.

cool, I will have to try this one. Do you know how many simultaneous connects it can handle?

No. The biggest site i used it had only 15 IP Extensions, it could handle it.

It is not a service and can be closed down by the end user.

The one I posted a link for runs as a service under both windows and linux.

I think Win XP can handle only 10 connections at the same time.

K.

.... glad i posted something helpfull, but appearantly you know better, why bother to comment anyway?

INtrigant, your file is gone (Ftp thingy) , can you post it again?

thnx

Thanks for this i will have to try it.

you can make the avaya tftp server a service. open the help file of the avaya tftp server and search on how to run as a service.

MV_Iptel runs as a service but there are enough customers where a program like that is not an option
customers like that won't havea server that big or a server at all
then you need to run a tftp on a desktop
they always promise to let it run 24/7 but close down the applications
then this is a great solution
and if you only need a tftp server then thisis also great on a big server :-)

This need for a tftp server that can handle more than ten concurrent connections in order for the phones to come up is going to go away. The phones are going to have the ability to know they will need to retry in a minute in order to get the files they need, thus allowing the Manager application to suffice for a tftp server.

The reason I say this is because Avaya is not totally stupid, ignorant, foolish, and stubborn, and any other course would be such. They will do it because if they do not they are just being stupid. Simply adding the ability for the phones to retry after one minute would in 99% of cases eliminate the need for another TFTP server, and seriously, how much resource can it take to make the phone retry? I realize this is not a user feature, but a technical staff feature, but eventually they will get around to it. Just be patient.

still i won't use the tftp in manager
it needs to be available all the time
so it needs to run as a service in my opinion (who cares :-) )

I do see a point there about manager needing to be running, and also as a service if the on site personel do not know enough to leave it running, and you have given them access to the VMNPRO server with that lack of knowledge(not advised).

If they desire access to the VMPRO server, you can train them to leave manager running, run manager as a service, or Avaya could password protect the shutting down of the application(Yes, I know this PW protect would not be foolproof). For those ceertain fools one might even make the desktop[ graphic say "Leave manager program running!!!!"
WOrst case when they call in they could be told did you shut off the manager application? If so, start it, and reboor! They will catch on eventually.

Avaya will figure out a real solution to this eventually that does not require an additional server running, and will make the phones retry themselves. It is an easy fix, once they get around to doing it, be patient.
