windows autoupdate

Hi Friends,
I have windows autoupdate feature set up to update everyday at 3AM. But whenever i goto windowsupdate.microsoft.com, i find a load of updates still waiting. isn't my autoupdate working? i logoff my machine everytime and so it should be logged off even at 3AM. Should someone be logged in for windows to update and install the updates automatically?
also, can someone tell me how to find out when the update was last run?

Windows Update does not install service packs on it's own. Maybe that's what you are seeing when you go to

http://www.windowsupdate.com.
