Windows authentication 2

We upgraded to sql2005 on v8 sp5 thinking we could use windows authentication with password complexity. The options in set up are still greyed out. Is this not going to happen in V8? What about V9, does windows authentication work there?

We are on a 2003 domain.

Great Plains does not support Windows Authentication. At least it still does not for v8, v9 and v10 (when it is released).

What is does support is Password Expiry and Password Policy if you have the following:

Microsoft Dynamics GP v9.0
SQL Server 2005
Windows Server 2003
Active Directory

If you don't have all of the above, then you can use third party products like Omni Password from

http://www.rocktonsoftware.com.

So it will use the SQL password complexity? Will they still be encrypted in Dynamics? Why can't I find a TK or white paper on it?

You also need to make sure that your odbc connection is using the Native Sql Driver.

Thanks. I've been looking for "authentication" all along.

Did you do a Dex training in Fargo back in 2000/2001?

I did run a class in July 2000 in Fargo. I think that was the only one that I actually did in Fargo. The attendees were Doug, Leslie, Dan, Heidi and Joe. Why do you ask?

Sadly, due to the change in the training delivery model since becoming part of Microsoft, I don't get to run Dexterity classes anymore. It is a shame as I love training.

Actually I was attending the sql training at the time but remember talking to you. I was doing some dex and had a couple of questions; you were as helpful then as you are now. Took my dex training back on v3 (too long ago to remember).

I'm trying to get up to speed on c#--had to migrate some dts jobs using assemblies--will v10 still be a dex/vs.net hybrid? I figure my dex days are numbered...

I learnt Dex on v2.10. It was Kevin Kidder's first international trip. He came to Melbourne, Australia and I flew across from Perth.

Core Great Plains will continue to be Dexterity while it is still Microsoft Dynamics GP.

We will lose Dexterity when the next generation product is released and we no longer have a GP product. So based on that Dex will be around until at least 2013.

However, there will be more and more places to use Visual Studio and C#. It would be wise to get up to speed in this world too..... Something I am working on as well.
