Just installed a new windows 2003 domain server, t'was a cutover from novell. Windows 2000/xp seems to work fine, fast on the network, logins ok etc.

Windows 98 seems to be dragging while running files from the server, namely quickbooks and accpac plus. But it seems like its slow to open anything to be honest. There are 5 windows 98 workstations. I had to turn off opportunistic file locking for accpac plus (dos app).

The win98 boxes have computer accounts on the server, they are listed in dns, retrieving from dhcp fine. Logging in fine, grabbing the login scripts etc.

The event logs are totally clean, no errors or warnings on the server or the 2000/xp workstations.

Any ideas what could be happening?

I'm heading in shortly to check the cabling from these workstations to the main switch.

Continuity check showed broken cable.
