hi
this is a NT forum...well
this looks like a hardware proplem
i used to have a p1-166 and a 20 G hdd win98
guess what sames as u window saw only 7.x G
then i chaged to p3-733 and it saw 20 G
after i bought a 100g hdd got the same problem it only saw
64.x G
got to go p4-1600
anyway the "story morality"
is that u need to upgrade your MotherBoard
someone knowledge ends where
someone else knowledge starts
It sounds like the version of DOS he is using the format the hard drive with, older version only support certain sized hard drives. Make a Windows boot disk from a good working Windows98 box.
You will have to re-format one of the problem PC.
I would boot off the Boot Floppy and then use FDISK to delete the partition and create a new Primary partition, then FORMAT the drive and install Windows.
New Zealand, a great place to visit.
I think your motherboard doesnt support the lba mode.. normally there is a jumper on your harddisk to change this.
U can check your hardware vendor or the fabricant website for such an information but am sure u can resolve this without changing motherboard. Mostly bios upgrades of the motherboard help u out as well. Good Luck
I had this issue with my older home PC and a Maxtor drive. I upgraded the firnware on my motherboard, didn't work. I eventually found a patch on the Maxtor website that allows older motherboards/BIOS's to see the larger disks (acts like LBA). I think it writes something into the drive that executes before the operating system - changes the format to LBA I guess. Dunno if you can get something like this as you've not mentioned your hard drive manufacturer. -----------------------------------------------------
