I am encountering the following two problems on my pc:

1. I cannot set the systrm date permanently. Every time I restart the pc, the old date (01/01/2000) is taken.
I have changed the battery on my pc recently.

2. I have the death screen (blue screen) messsage very often
about error in writing to the hard disk. When I press the carriage return, my pc continuess to function. I guess my hard disk may be on the verge of collapse.

I need help to eliminate these 2 problems.

I have Compaq Presario 7464 with Windows 98 installed.

Is the new battery upside down? Are you sure the battery is good?

First, get the stuff off your HDD now! Make sure all the cables are connected and snug (including power). Try replacing the HDD IDE cable or putting the HDD on the second IDE channel.

You may have a failing Motherboard (or HDD) but the power supply is also suspect.
