Windows 98 print server, 2kdomain, accounts locked out?

Got an odd situation here, I have a win98box that has 3 printers, and some shared files haning off of it, that is it's only job (files are only backups of the files that reside on the 2k server.) Some of my users, after changing their passwords (policy to change them every few months) when they try and access the printer(s) their account is locked out. In the event logs of the server, I see:

Reason: Unknown user name or bad password
User Name: seth
Domain: TRUSS
Logon Type: 3
Logon Process: NtLmSsp
Authentication Package: NTLM
Workstation Name: \\PRINTSERVERA

(printservera is the printserver)

A bit about the win98 box, it is using the AD client that comes on the 2k server cd. This just started happening recently. I'm not sure if any updates have caused this issue. I can't figure out why the account is locked out. If anymore info is needed, i'll gladly supply.

I'm still a little confused, are you using the 98 as a print server (with server software) or are you using the 98 as a central location for these printers and are connected via peer to peer? If the latter, as it sounds, the p2p connections were created with a specific password and if the password was changed then the connection is unavailable.

I would suggest going to the PDC server and reseting the locked out accounts and change back the passwords to the way they were.

What I was getting at, before I pressed the send button, was that for the printers to be able to follow the users trust they need to be handled by a print server that already has a trust relationship with the domain. I assume these printers don't have LAN connections built in so they are accessed via their parrallel or serial ports driven by the 98 workstation--hence the p2p. Or, I still misunderstand the question.

No special server software, normal p2p. The computer isn't joined or trusted by the server domain (didn't think such a thing was possable with win98.) Perms are loaded from the 2kserver (in mixed mode.) The said win98 box can login to the domain, browse, and list users for permissions from the server (no error occur.) What is odd is that this is happening now. Not sure if it's an error on the box itself, or someone (my boss) messed with perms somewhere in 2k (win98 is head less and i'm the only one with access to it.)

Another thing to note is that when i try to access the computer with \\<name> or \\<ip> I'm prompted for username/password. I searched MS and google for this issue, and one fix that I found was to disable LM Hashed passwords on the server. The fix said to restart the server, and change the passwords that are causing issue. Did all that, same thing.

I've had the password exparation policy in place for over a year now (box has been around for a while with this setup as well.) Beginning last month, I implimented complex passwords. Thinking this was the issue, Disabled that, and set a simple 1234 password on a user, and was still getting incorrect password on the server from the win98 box. No users can directly log into the win98 printserver because like i said, no head, no access besides me.

Is a lot of stuff, but i hope it can cast some more light onto the problem.

More specs on the machine, OS Win98SE, just verified, latest via windows update. Hp printers (plotter hpdesignjet 430, lasterjet hp lasterjet 4000) both are connected to lpt ports (one 2 port combo card inside)
