I need to re-direct a tcp printer on a pc back to itself using windows printer sharing. PC has a TCP printer, I need to share the printer and connect back it to it as a windows network printer - map it back to itself. I know you can share a folder on a PC and then map a drive to it - on the same pc. I need to do this with a printer - it looks like the only way I can get it to print on a terminal server client setup. TS wants a LPT port, if I can map the printer back to itself, I can then capture it as a LPT port.

When I try this I get an error looking to install "FINSTALL.DLL" which is no where to be found on the Windows CD. Also it is asking for a password for the printer!! (printer is shared with no password) and refers to letter X: like it's trying to map a drive to a folder (path something like \\computername\printer$ or something)!!

Ideas appreciated.

So hang on, do you need to capture a port for local dos printing, or do you need to print to a printer through windows terminal services (rdp)?

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

Terminal Server. The TS client has a tcp printer (true tcp printer hooked to the cat5 system and has it's own IP, not attached to any pc/lpt), no LPT printers available on the pc.
