We run an intranet using IIS5 on Windows 2000 Server. The intranet is setup as the active desktop on every PC.

The intranet contains links to files held in a shared directory on the server \\server_name\shared\files

We carried out all security patches last week and since that the file links no longer work on Windows 98 through the active desktop. You click on a link and the PC just does not respond (not hang, just nothing happens).

I have tried to troubleshoot and my findings are:
1. Windows NT/2000/XP machines unaffected
2. Intranet links WORK via internet explorer but not active desktop.
3. Changing the security level for intranets (even to NO SECURITY) has no effect.

Any help please.
