Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

I just installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and now can not connect to my domain. Any ideas out there on what's going on? I have not changed my credentials to my domain and I just recently logged into my server with the same credentials.

Maybe a stupid question, but have you "Joined" the machine to the domain?

If you have just installed the machine, its not automatically joined so it can't log onto it.

Go to Start and type Domain in the search box. One of the options should be "Join a Domain".

You'll need a user with Administrative Privileges in the Domain to join the computer to it.

Thank you for the response. Yes I have done this many times and with my administrative credentials. Yes I do have Administrator Privileges in the Domain. I am looking to find out if Microsoft had altered in any way the method of joining a domain. I was previously running Win 7 RC and before that XP Pro and all of the others were part of the domain. My DC is running Windows SBS 2003 and yes I am an administrator of that OS. It just seems strange that I can not join.

Third party AV or FW involved?

if so uninstall them, turning them off will NOT do, until you can join it to the Domain...

disable the windows firewall, until it is joined...

I am assuming the KB926505 HotFix is installed, as it is needed to flawlessly join a domain, if not below is the link to said HotFix...

What happens when you try? Do you get an error? Does it appear to join but then won't let you log on after?

Thank you for all that have replied.

I am not deploying any system through the server, just trying to join my personal system to the domain.
I do not have any AV or FW installed yet.

Vacunita: when I try to log on I do get a credentials window by entering my known good credentials I rcv and error: "An attempt to resolve the DNS name of a domain controller in the domain being joined has failed".

Linney: I have never heard of ripcurl patch. I will check that out. Unless you saying that Windows 7 and Vista behave in a similar fashion by utilizing similar kernals.

I just viewed the ripcurl patch and find it hard to believe that this is the root of the problem. It would seem to me that the problem lies within Windows 7 itself. I am still unable to log into my domain.

Make sure the TCP/IP configuration is correct and the DNS entries point to the Domain controller.

Additionally try flushing the DNS's

It could be NTLMv2 that is the root of the problem...

on the W7 box:

1. Type secpol.msc (run box)
2. Expand "Local Policies" and select "Security Options"
3. Locate "Network Security: LAN Manager Authentication Level" in the list and double-click it.
4. Change the setting from "Send NTMLv2 response only" to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session if negotiated"
5. Network Security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP Based (including secure RPC) Clients
6. Change the setting from "require 128 bit" to unchecked (No Minimum)
7. Click OK

Did you try to delete the user on SBS ?
Then give the server a reboot and try again
Seen it happen on a server 2003 too
But when i rebooted it the harddisk was broken :-)

Some people have disabled the IPV6 side of things when all else has failed from a troubleshooting point of view.

How to disable certain Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) components in Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008

If it makes no difference after a reboot be sure to enable it again.
