Installed Windows 2K, using 3COM US Robotics modem. Successful connections to Internet but receiving svchost.exe errors when disconnecting.

Any advice please?

Some more info needed:
- which version of Windows 2k? Some problems of svchost.exe were fixed with SP2
- which kind of 3com-modem?
- which error message?

Oops!!

O/S - Windows 2000 Professional.
Modem - 3Com-US Robotics PCI internal modem
Model - 71-802884-01

No specific error message when modem disconnects, just says, "svchost.exe reporting errors Windows will close...." PC needs rebooting to do another connection.

Thanks for responding.

...at work at the moment, home PC receiving the svchost.exe errors.

Message is, "svchost.exe reporting errors with 3C1807VP.DL_ . Windows will close ....."

3C1807VP.DL_ being one of the driver files.

WindowWizard should eventually read the sites he recommends. Nothing to do with this problem, except that svchost.exe is involved.

seaney: The product code is exact?
Do you have the newest version of the 3c1807vp.dll? The latest version should be from 2000-08-17, if I'm right.

Tried to remove and reinstall the driver?

Ooops, found a new driver version at usr of 2001-12-19 ...

Thanks for responding Sky14657.

I downloaded the usr_internal zip file. 3 different zip files unzipped. usr_internal zip file dated Sept 2001. There were still some other driver files required (3C1807VP.DL_ being one of the others is dated Feb 2000) for complete installation.

Tried all 3 different driver installations but still getting the svchost errors.

Could this be the problem?

Try ftp://ftp.usr.com/usr/dl15/USR5695_2K_XP.exe for a new version of the driver.
But, as usually with Windows-messages, the problem doesn't have to come from this side...
A new driver is always a good start with fixing problems ;-)

Thanks Sky14657, ...on my way home to try the download and installation again.

...will report back later.

....more or less the same problem still happening.

Installed Support tools, rebooted, re-installed the modem driver files, connected/disconnected OK but still svchost reported errors.

Done a tlist -s to check what processes are in error.

svchost was one of them and a drwatson32 process another.

I must add though, Dr Watson was previously installed in the PC but not re-installed yet since formatting the disk, installing W2K Prof and the modem. ...could this be the reason why the svchost is reporting errors re the drwtson32 process? ...will installing Dr Watson antivirus app resolve this problem?

..........advice please?
