Windows 2000 with BIND 9.2.x

I am running an NT 4.0 network at the moment. I am in the process of upgrading to an Active Directory Domain with Windows 2000 Server. My DNS is handled by BIND 9.2.1 on a Linux box which also serves as a WEB server and FTP server. I have setup BIND to work with dynamic updates and SRV records so it will run fine with Win2k Active Directory according to the "Windows 2000 with BIND" white paper from Microsoft.

The problem I am having is that the white paper calls for setting up the Win2k server as a stand alone server, then once BIND is setup properly upgrading it to a Domain Controller with dcpromo.exe. But, when I attempt to do that the Active Directory Wizard comes up and requires me to setup a new DNS or a backup DNS. Well, I DON'T WANT any Windows 2000 machine to act as any DNS. I want Active Directory to use my BIND DNS. According to the white paper this is possible but for some odd reason the Active Directory Wizard won't allow it.

Am I setting up the stand alone server wrong? Is there a way to setup Active Directory without it wanting to setup a DNS server?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

silly question, does the server have it's NIC bound to the IP address of the Linux box for Primary DNS resolution prior to running DCPROMO?

I feel stupid. But I guess that what 18 hour days will get you after a while.

For the record it wasn't asking to setup a new or add to an existing DNS it was asking for Domain Controller.

*sadly shakes his head*
