I just ordered a P4 notebook that came with Windows XP. I need to replace it with Windows 2000 Server. How do I do this? I'm not really experienced with OS changes.

That type of OS change will require you to manually remove the xp files and then install the new os, you could try a boot disk, or if you are brave and have all the recovery cd's from the note book manufacturer, go for a full format and reinstall the os of your choice.

The only way to go in my opinion is completely wipe the hard drive with f-disk, and re-install the new o/s from scratch. You run the risk of carrying over some goofy XP files if you don't. If you don't feel comfortable doing this, take it to someone in the field that knows how and pay for it to be done by a professional. Just remember, any warranty you've got with the laptop will probably be voided by doing this. Glen A. Johnson

Thank you for your help. One more question: Do I need to use fdisk from the XP boot disk (which I don't have) or will fdisk from the Windows 2000 boot disk work?

I always use a 98 se boot disk. Glen A. Johnson
