Can you get into safe mode or last known good config? (Press F8 when black/white bar loading) - ie, can you uninstall said patches?

If not, could try a repair reinstall (

Hi:

Thank you for your suggestion, I did reinstall the OS using the option indicated by your link, however, there is this window installer dialog which urged me to insert a cd into the drive popped up from time to time, any idea why? When I fired up an application and there this dialog showed up, sometimes 2 or 3 times per application starting from the moment when window is successfully booted, this symptom started to occur ever since after the OS was reinstalled. Thanks again for your suggestion.

What does this pop-up say (eg, what disk/file(s) is it asking for).

The title of the dialog box says "Windows Installer", while the detail says "The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available, insert the "Nero-Burning Rom" and click ok. It is referring to my CD Rom apparently. I am not sure if that has something to do with the CD ROM driver not properly versioned or installed, but as I compared it to my old one (still in the system folder because i renamed it prior to the re-installation option that you suggested), they are of the same size though, 35KB that is, the old one being dated 12/7/1999 5:00am while the new one is 11/5/1999 1:52PM. I hated to reinstall all the applications right after my re-installation of the OS because some of their original installation files have long gone (I deleted them to save disk space). Any idea of how to make that extremely annoying dialog not pop up? It fires off 2 or 3 times with each application that i run,

This actually happens quite frequently. With the install on demand technology that is incorporated with Windows Installer. More than likely there is some system process trying to access a file extension that is associated with Nero and wants to install the optional component. Best bet is to put your nero CD in there and get it over with. We had similiar issues with Office 2000 and Office XP.

I have tried leaving the Nero in my CD rom, but the "Windows reinstaller" dialog box persists even when the CD is in the drive, besides, I can not leave the Cd in there forever as I need it for other things. I noticed also that each time I finished watching a CD movie and eject it from the drive, the blue screen shows up with "Memory dump", after that, the systems reboots,
