HELP! pleeeease.
I can't log on to my computer at all. It is not networked other than recieving its internet connection from a wireless router (which others do as well but it is not a member of the same workgroup).
I am sure its my fault... i was attempting to make it a one user machine (its in a private room) so i deleted the two users and unchecked the "users must enter a user name and password..." box. Upon closing i entered "administrator" with no password as the auto log on default.
I then restarted. Idiot!
Now it starts up fine but a log on window appears and nothing seems to work, not "administrator" or any other user/password.
What can I do??? i really can't do a clean re-install because i have some really important files on there! Please Help!

Try:

Username: Admininstrator
Password:

If that doesn't work, you can delete the *.sam files from DOS which will also remove the passwords.

You can do a re-install but do not do a format of the machine just load over the top.

There are also some great crack programs out there for changing the passwords on machines. I have had to do this on a number of occaisions. Does your machine have a CD ROM? If so then you can run one of the cracks access the password list and reset the password.

CAMBO,
I do have a CD ROM, can you recommend a good crack program?

I dont know of any freeware utilities, but depending on how long you can wait, there is a great utility from Winternals called ERD commander. You can order a demo from them (takes about a week)that will tap into the systems SAM and allow you to change the admin password. Or you can download it from thier site but its $200. your call.

2nd Option...
Assuming you know the workgroup name of your pc (default is "workgroup")and you have a nic, you can setup another pc to run a crack program (I use LC4 by @stake, you can download a 15 day trial form thier website ).
This will allow you to run a brute force attack on the machine and possibly retreive the password.

hope this helps
