We have two users running XP on laptops and the rest is running 2000 on PC's they are all connect to a Win 2000 server. When the new (XP) users joined the domain we made new profiles for them by copying another users profile.

However, they both only have read only access to all of the server drives and if they want to delete a document they created they must cut it to their c drive and then delete it else they get an access denied message. Cant delete documents off the server drives.

Their profiles were copied from a user running 2000 and they have full access to the drives and can delete files.

Can anyone think of a solution or something I could try as I am getting low on ideas.

Regards

Anthony

delete profile, create a new, local one for the users in question, then copy the new profile to the server share...
make sure you delete on the laptops the old profile firt....
try it, it might just work ! :)

I would tend to agree...delete their accounts and then recreate them...if you use the same username and are careful about the directories, their documents and desktop and other settings should be preserved.

alternatively, (and i think you should try this first)
check in the active directory and look up what groups and or permissions each of the problematic user accounts has...it is very possible that for whatever reason they are simply lacking those perms

at the very least they should be members of the domain users group and any other special groups you use for control...my bet is on that as your source of problems

as for the XP os are they pro? If so you REALLY should add those machines to the domain
