I have installed samba on Solaris 2.5 and run perfectly with Windows 9x, but with Windows 2000 fails, because the message says access denied.

My command and answer are:
smbclient '\\INMA_PASCUAL\MASTERS' -N -d 3
Added interface ip=1.0.0.15 bcast=1.255.255.255 nmask=255.0.0.0
Client started (version 2.0.3).
resolve_name: Attempting lmhosts lookup for name INMA_PASCUAL<0x20>
Connecting to 1.1.2.73 at port 139
session setup failed: ERRDOS - ERRnoaccess (Access denied.)

Can anybody help me please???

I had this promblem connecting to Samba on Linux - you need to enable W2K to send plain text passwords to the Samba machine.

Go to Admin Tools, Local Security Policy. Then in Local Policies, Security Options find the setting called 'Send unencrypted password to connect to third-party SMB servers' and enable it.

You need then to right-click Security Settings on the left pane and click Reload. It might need a restart I can't remember.

'Send unencrypted password to connect to third-party SMB servers' is "enable" but the message displays again.
Anything else?
Thanks for your answer danbbigs.

I know this is more or less the same thing, but try checking the registry for the plain text password:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkStation\Parameters

If it doesn't exist add a key called EnablePlainTextPassword, type is REG_DWORD value should be 1

I was on holidays until now, so I have seen your message today.
The EnablePlainTextPassword is 1, but the message displays again.
Anything else?
Thanks for your answer danbbigs.
