i have a client and for some reason his machien reboots randomly but its does not reboot its self in safe mode could it still be the power suply.I have tried everthing there is nothign running in the back round, the only service is running is exployer.I thought it was video drivers so i upgraded them didnt help, I even disconnected the ups to see if it was the ups,but like i said it only reboots its self in normal mode( meanin safe mode does not reboot) can some please throw me some ideas?

There's something wrong with the windows installation or a driver somewhere, could be sound driver as well, if it works fine in safe mode. Try the sound card driver, see if that helps.

well goign ahead i reinstalled the os.but i will try to remove the sound driver from the machine and c if that helps, but y all of a sudden this would happend?..thanks again

9x baesd OS's aren't known for stability, I steer clear of them as much as possible now a days. Hehe. I've watched a fresh install of 98 go down the can in a week before under normal usage.

Several times I've seen this in machines where upper/expanded memory is crapping out in normal mode. May want to run a memory check from DOS.

thanks guys for your input. its turns out the mother board was bad, there was a short ,it runs good now,but why it didnt reboot in safe mode this puzzles me,?

check the memory in the machine and the power supply, I have seen bad ram chips giving these types of errors.

Heres a simple story about a fool:

I also once saw a "collegue" pay hundreds of dollars for an "IT expert from the paper" (she was having the same problems with a win98 machine, where it would just reboot) and so he said it was "norton antivirus" and uninstalled it and several other software componets and then told her he could come back tomorrow to re-install the whole OS!!.

I replaced the power supply... problem solved.. game over.
