I am trying to set up to boxes both running win98 to communicate. they will be about 3 miles from each other so I think Dial up is my only option(cost wise as well). I have one set up as a client and the other has dial up server installed. I am using us robotics external 56 k usb modems. I can get the modem to answer but then it disconnects and I get the 629 error. I have checked the protocols numerous times I have them using netbeui, both on same workgroup and hae different names. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you in advance

There is a big section in the win98 help section on dial-up networking. Goto Start menu, then Help. In the search box, type in "dial-up networking" It should be the first one that pops up.

Thank you!!!

I have went through this. I also set up another 98 box thinking maybe I had issues with this one. Still I get the same thing. When watching the modem it quickly disconnects about the time that the passwords would be getting recieved.
Is there any free software that anyone knows of that you can use to dial in? I plan to run VNC once they are dialed into the server so they can access the software they need. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
