Hi,

I am running Win98 1st Ed., on my laptop. I had a problem previously with a Plug and Play Webcam. I plugged in the Cam and everything ran fine. The next time I could not access the web. I had to reformat the disk and re-install all the software (only half re-installed).

Now I would like to test the USB port. I tried to load other software and got a USB warning (possibly Host or Controler). I would like to know where or how, I can test the USB port and update the Win98 1st Ed. software and or divers?

I know it is included in Win98 SE, but also read that other than the Firewire, USB and ICS upgrades. It's not worth the cost of the software.

Any help in locating downloads and testing proceedures would be welcome.

Thanks

Have you been out to Windows Update and installed the latest patches?

USB should run fine under Win98 FE. It might be the driver for your motherboard's USB hardware that you need. The USB interface itself should be covered by Windows.

Find the make/model of your motherboard and go out to the manufacturer's site for drivers.

to append to cdogg's comments;
'System update' - but who knows what else MS will make you install

Did you install the Mobo Chipset drivers correctly?.....before Video card drivers? (give Mobo make/model and Sys specs)

Did you update DirectX yet?

a good USB site

BTW - this may be a better first try;
-------------------------------
Microsoft Windows 98 USB Video Camera KSWDMCAP.AX, VFWWDM32.DLL, VFWWDM.DRV, USBAUDIO.SYS + USBHUB.SYS Update [197kb]
Direct D/l;
-------------------------------
from (great site)
-------------------------------

definitely need to know Mobo chipset drivers are correct either way though
Then you can update DirectX (I'd go with 8 only for 98FE)
