There isn't a Win95 forum so I am hoping that somebody can help me here:

I have an office with 8 PCs Win 95 networked. They share each others drives with one of them acting as a server.
I would like to take the old thin ethernet cables out and replace it with UTP, a 100Mb hub, install new 100Mb cards into the PCs and connect them into the hub.

The questions are: is there anything wrong with doing this, does it make sense, should it work..???

Effectively they should all be connected to each other again through the hub, but does Win95 networking affect that it any way. I don't think it should I would like someone to give me some supporting comments before I spend any money..

hope someone can help me guys.
It will work fine.

Best bet is as follows:

Set up one as the "server". Put all shared files on it. Make sure you back it up regularly. Run 95 with file and print sharing on it.

Other machines do not have shared folders and do not have file and print sharing on them. Otherwise you will get confused and will also get lots of traffic.

Recommend spending the extra and getting 3Com cards rather than cheap and cheerful. Around $50 (£35) each and will outlast you.

Thanks for that..

I was actually considering Genius PCi 10/100Mb cards - had loads of them before I they really have been fine. But if I get the money, might go for 3Com.

Thanks again.

If you really get the cash, consider using one of the PCs as a real server, by installing Windows NT on one of them. Even if you only install Workstation(I RECOMMEND SERVER) you will be able to use things like User Manager and NTFS for file security.
John D.
