Hello,

I have setup a new domain based DFS root. We want to map only 1 drive through login scripts that points to various application servers instead of mapping multiple drives for each application. The problem i am having is this:

When trying to run an exe from the mapped drive that points to DFS, i get the internet explorer file download box that asks me to open or save the exe. Is there anyway to stop this behavior and just run the application from the DFS link?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thank you,

Dustin

I'm getting something similar - the "Unsigned Publisher" warning dialog. It doesn't happen when I directly map to the saerver, only when using Dfs.

I've noticed that this happens when trying to access an exe by using an internal servers IP adress instead of the DNS name as well. I thought DFS was purely DNS based. Any ideas?

OK, think I found a solution for this - it involves the Intranet Zone settings in your domain. If you add your domain name (domainname.xxx will do - don't need http or www) to the Local Intranet Zone in IE, (IE Properties-->Security-->Sites[highlight Local Intranet]-->Advanced), the Open File Warning dialog appears to go away.

This can be done through Group Policy if you have XP SP2.

- Select the default domain policy-->Computer Configuration-->Administrative Templates-->Windows Components-->Internet Explorer-->Internet Control Panel.

- In the left pane, expand this node and highlight the Security Page folder.

- In the right pane, you should see a number of top level options; locate and open the "Site to Zone Assignment" GPO.

- Enable it and click the Show button. Click the Add button, enter your domain name, and assign it a value of 1.

- Click OK 3 times to clear all dialog boxes.

Note that in my tests, gpupdate did not fully enable this setting; a reboot of the client was required.

Hope this helps...

HEY!

Nice solution...works like a charm.....who would have known that would be the case, what with Internet Exploder being so tightly integrated with the OS now.

THanks for your help!

Dustin
