We have a single Win2K Server which is the PDC for our network. We connect to the Internet using ADSL through a Cisco 675 provided by our ISP. The PDC acts as the DNS server, with the Cisco performing DHCP using private addresses (10.0.0.x). We want to set up a VPN so that some employees can access the network from home. My questions are:

Do we need two NICs in the server? (I understand that it's theoretically possible to do it with one, but is it advisable?)

Should we replace the Cisco with something newer and more robust?

Do we need to have any public IP addresses assigned?

Should we get a hardware firewall? (We're currently using a software firewall.)

Thanks in advance for any help.

1. one NIC should work since you have a router.
2. it is better to have s static public ip.
3. hardware firewall? Sure if you have a budget.

For how to setup vpn with one NIC, go to
