Win2k server not compatable with Winxp pro clients

Has anyone out there had problems writing files to Win2k servers with Winxp pro clients? Using office 2k Excel the Winxp clients lock up trying to write a file back to the server--the the error message says something about being unable to rename the file. The file is then locked out for everybody untill the Winxp client reboots and releases the Excel file. Both servers and clients are new Dell machines.

Have you given the client user accounts write/modify rights to the shared server folders/files?

Even Domain and local administrators have the problem.

We have 2 Win XP pro client machine and 18 Win 2k Pro client machine under Windows 2000 network. Users on Win xp use all kind of application including office 2k. None of the users has reported any problem so far.

Regardless of who specifically is having the problem, double check the permissions and security settings for both the share point as well as the files/folders located within them.
