I have a PDC (win2k server)whose space i am running out of (It is a file and print server).
I want to have another PDC (win2k Advance server)(which does have enough space) that can authenticate and do the function of PDC.
I have already transfered the data files to the new pdc. Now I want to transfer the active directory.
I do want to keep my present pdc for a while until i am assured everything is fine.
In the meanwhile, I need all files to be synchronized between the two (old pdc and new pdc to be).
Also both of the pdc should be able to authenticate users in the interim period.

I take it this IS a 2K domain, judging by the fact you are using 2K Domain Controlers. Unlike the NT domain structure, there can be, in a sense multiple Domain Controlers (PDC's). However, one has a role of PDC Emulator to suport down level servers/clients.

All you need to do is promote the ADV. Server to DC status and let AD replicate to it. Through load balancing both will authenticate. Both will then contain duplicate AD info and structure. You can then move the PDC Emulator role to the ADV. Server is you wish. If it is not a big deal, leave the other 2K server as a DC, but move the docs and files to the ADV. server to free up space on the other. Hewissa
