I have a customer of ours wanting to upgrade there Netware server for our application to Win2k Server. Our application requires the Server to setup as a BDC. I am trying to research the best way to setup the server, but am not having much luck. They are having problems getting away from AD. Any suggestions or article's would be greatly appreciated as I not very familiar with AD!! Thanks in advance!!

If you want a domain then you have to have AD.

There is no way to create a BDC in Windows 2000, its either a domain controller or not.

There is no BDC in Windows2k network. A windows NT server could be a BDC (in case of un upgrade from NT4 to win2k). But then, your application will run on a win-nt4.
First question is, why your application will work just on a BDC?
There are few possibilities to keep compatibility level. But first, because you are saying that is your application, tell us the restrictions. Gia Betiu

Don't quite understand this statment. Netware has a version similar to AD, but it's not MS AD. AD is very nice to use, causes little problems so it's worth using. Unless your running some old DOS programs, like I do here, W2K DC is the way to go. I did have to jump through some hoops because of old programs that ran on novell didn't want to run under W2K. (Had to use batch files to load printer drivers for the old software, etc.) Let us know some more details. Thanks and good luck. Glen A. Johnson

I stand corrected!!!! It needs to be a PDC!! I was given the wrong info (sorry bout that!) This isn't really my bag, just tryin to help a customer. They wanted to set up the server, but they didn't want to use active directory (they are an NT shop) they are afraid of it. They want this segment to be segregated from there network. (server and 6 clients) What would be there best option, just setup a domain in AD and add there users?? Again, sorry about the confusion....Any and all help is appreciated!

That sounds like a great option. The server will need to be DCPROMO'ed into a 'mixed environment' mode and then it will effectivately be a PDC. Segmentation would also allow them to learn AD and realise its not that scary!

Sounds good! thanks again for the quick advice!!!
