I hope some one has an idea what's happening here, because I'm stuck. Here's the issue. I have a *very* small test environment that I'm playing with - 2 machines. The first is an NT 4.0 Server, the second a Win2k Professional. For some reason, the Win2K box does not show up in Network Neighborhood, but I can access shares via URL or mapped network drives. Does anyone have any idea what this could be???

Details:

Server: NT 4.0
Protocols: TCP/IP
Services: PDC, WINS, DNS, DHCP, Netbios over TCP/IP

Client: Win 2k Pro
Protocols: TCP/IP
Client fo MS Networks, File and Print Sharing, NETBIOS over TCP/IP

make sure they are on the same subnet if they are using TCP

ie if the server has address of 192.168.1.1

make sure the win2kpro machine has the address in the 192.168.1.Xs (not the same address with the server obviously)

fill in the TCP---> advanced ---> WINS section on the win2kbox with the IP of the NT server, even though win2kpro don't really use the WINS, but it still can accompany the WINS from the NT OS.

I know this is a silly question but

Does the machine actually belong to the NT domain?

Check if you have the File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks enabled
(Check this in the Local Area Connection Status)

Try installing service pack 2/3 and check it out,
