I have a win2k server with active directory and 30 clients using NT 4.0 protocols are TCP/IP and netBEUI. the NT clients can logon no probs but I have just installed win2k server on another machine to use for exchange 2000 but it refuses to logon to the domain. The clients are at present using a static IP 203.46.118.??? whilst the domain controller uses 200.200.200.???. The new server is also been tried with either and both addressing schemes. I can however logon to the local account and have full access to network shares and see all. But when attempting to join the new server to the DC as a child it cant access it nor can it be pinged. ANY IDEAS!!!!! Please we have spend many hours trying different things to no avail....

get rid of NetBeui..not supportd with Win2k and AD.
ip addresses for all machines on the same 'logical' network must be on the same subnet and be of the same class. Check default gateway and DNS entries for DC's.
Best option is to enable DHCP and switch all clients to use DHCP.

hope it helps

Windows 2000 is using as a locator service DNS.
Check your DNS configuration on that Win2k machine!
If the address of DNS is set properly then try with nslookup to see how your system is querying the DNS.
IN nslookup session try to type the name of your domain. See if you have an answer. Gia Betiu
