I have a new PC that came with Win2K on it. I got it connected to the intwernet via our LAN. All was working fine. The PC went to the MS site and told me to download the latest updates.

I did. The update went fine. Then it said to restart the computer. Now it powers up, the sarting windows screen comes on, the it turns to a plain blue screen for a couple seconds, then a black screen, then begins to power up again....

Anybody know how to fix this? Thanks

UGH!

I would try to boot it from OS CD that came with it. At least then you could get into the machines logs to find out whats happening, or at least rollback the updates.

I was finally able to do that, but it could not repair it, so win2000 was reinstalle.
Now when I try to srart the machine it begins to start windows, then I get a plain blue screen with a mouse arrrow. In ~ 15 minutes I get an \error box that says:
------------------------------------------------------------
suchost.exe
------------------------------------------------------------
The ordinal 212 could not be located in the dynamic link library locwin32.dll
-----
| OK |

When your click ok, it goes back to the blue screen, and that message comes back again after a very long wait ~ 90 minutes.

Any ideas except reformat and start over?

Thanks.

When you reinstalled it, did you delete the partitions and reformatt the disk first?

No, but that is what I will do now. I hate MS Windows - it wastes so much time!

Make sure you make that disk "factory fresh" before you do a reinstall, and make sure you delete ALL partitions before you proceed. I learned awhile ago not to bother with an in-place reinstallation; it never seemed to clear up my problems!

You also maight want to do the updates before you put any of your own software on there, that may have been what caused the problem in the first place...

Good Luck!

There is no native Win2k OS file "suchost.exe"

There are several viruses and worms that create a file with this name.

I think the issue is that your computer is infected and needs a thorough virus cleaning. See smah's faq for a listing of several online cleaners: faq760-3862
