Hello! I'm setting up a win2k pro lab at my school (yes, it's all legit) I've got all the accounts down and stuff and everything is well, EXCEPT that my group policies aren't being implemented. At first I wanted to use them to deploy MSI apps to computers (and i still want that function), however even though they were set up, they didn't install on the computer. Next, I tried playing with user settings in the GP, and those also didn't show up.

I don't know if this is important, but on each computer's event viewer, there is an error 1722?

FYI, the DHCP is somewhere else in the network, as is the Gateway and DNS Servers

My server is just the domain controller. It is DHCP'ing for an IP as well.

ANY ideas guys? If you have any question, post and/or PM me and/or e-mail me!

Thank you very much!

Michael

Give your DC a static IP. It just works better. As for the GP thing here are a couple of things. At which level did you apply the GP site, domain, or OU? If you applied it to an OU and no machines or user accounts are in it then you've wasted your time (actually did this once), but moving accounts to another OU is very easy. The first thing I would try is making a GP to restrict accessing the display settings in control panel. Thats an easy test. If you can't access it after you log on then you were successful and you just dont have you MSI packaged right. If that doesn't work then right click on your site, domain, or OU and select properties to get into you GP. Highlight your GP and select properties, then security. Make sure that authenticated users is in there with READ and Apply Group Policy permissions checked. Me tired now, post back. All Complaints Will Be Routed To /dev/null

Alright.

I tried the static IP before, but that didn't help (i specified the IP that was given already by the DHCP before). In fact, if I remember correctly, it stopped working on the network?

The GP is applied to the domain first. I also tried an OU. No go. I tried applying both User and Computer settings, but nope! I've tried simple tests (like yours), to no avail.

I'm getting an error 1722, which is something bad about DNS i think (I'll look that up now). Thanks for your help

Anyone? I'd really like to get this GP to work (it sounds so great to enforce all these rules)

run a netdiag /L and see if you get any DNS errors. Also, run GPRESULT to find out if you're clients are processing any policies at all. AD is totally dependent on DNS, so double check your IP settings and follow along that path.
