We are running our intranet on a Windows 2000 Advanced server and are having a few problems...
Under varying circumstances (that I cannot track down) the server stops serving pages and the browsers just hang. When looking at performance monitor, there are a few things to note when this occurs:
1. The get requests per second (Total) for the Web Service drop to 0.
2. The number of concurent connections (total non-anonymous) for the Web Service stay at the same level.
3. The number of TCP Connections established gradually drops.
4. The processors drop to around 10% each (dual 1.2GhZ).
5. The TCP Segments a second drop to near 0.
This problem can last for a couple of seconds right up to 30 seconds or more and happens throughout the day not at a particular time. It can happen once or twice an hour or every couple of minutes.
We installed SP4 the other week in an attempt to solve the problem as it seemed Microsoft had highlighted this as an issue with Windows. See:
Any comments, suggestions or help on this would be greatly appreciated as we are pulling our hair out here.
Many thanks,
Dave
