I have a Win2K Server (SP3) as my Primary Server and also have a Backup Server (SP3) (Win2K Server too).

I setup my 3rd server Windows 2003 Server and I was able to see the servers, setup DNS but I get this error when I setup AD:

The operation failed because:

The Active Directory Installation Wizard cannot continue because the forest is not prepared for installing Windows Server 2003. Use the Adprep command-line tool to prepare both the forest and the domain. For more information about using the Adprep, see Active Directory Help.

"The version of the Active Directory schema of the source forest is not compatible with the version of Active Directory on this computer."

I tried to go to start run and type "adprep" but nothing happened.

Any ideas?

first off, if im remembering correctly, if the 2003 server must be the forest root domain controller, which you cant do unless you install a fresh domain or upgrade teh existing forest root DC

you have to prepare the forest and domain by running adprep /forestprep and the adprep /domainprep on each domain and child domains DC

youll only be able to use the 2003 server as standalone as it stands i think

cant add it as another DC because the forest root DC (the 2000 server) wont know what to do with info from the 2003 server ebcause it doesnt have the technology to comprehend it if im thinking right

thats what sucks about all the 2003 products, cant run versions of 2000 products with them (like cant run exchange 2000 on win2003)

hope this helps
