Bought computer from friend with (OS) Windows 2000 Professional. After several months of slow use computer has become extremely slow, example: 30 seconds for "button" to respond to cursor!
Would like to uninstall OS, but do not have Win2000 CD or boot disk. How can I get Win2000 off this computer & replace with Win 98 (I do have a Win 98 CD)?
This computer: 600 MHz Intel Celeron processor; 655MB RAM (I added a 512 "stick" last month attempting to increase speed). Have another computer running Win ME (so I can download).

Any help would be appreciated,
Bruce

Can you boot to the Windows 98 disk?

If anyone calls and says "I know a little something about computers" just tell them to reformat it.

You realize that a clean installation will lose your security and other Hotfixes, all applications, and your user data and settings?

I would investigate completely the issues for the slowdown. Some steps that have proved productive for others in the past:

. chkdsk the hard disk
. defrag the hard disk
. clean and optomize the registry. A good freeware: ToniArts Easy cleaner: . clean possible malware issues: see faq608-4650
