Yes another problem with a laptop (this time an Acer 290LCi with centrino & wireless networking) running WinXP Pro and a WinME peer-to-peer network.

The server domain name is "John & Co" and we have set the XP Pro machine to see the domain as "JOHNCO"

We have tried "pinging" to no avail - it's unreachable

The wireless connection is excellent

IP addresses have been set @ Automatic

We are running ZoneAlarm Pro Firewall & the IP address of the server & subnet mask have been set as trusted zones

The strange thing is that another machine running WinXP HE works fine on the network. Is there something within XP Pro that can cause these problems that is not in XP HE (or not set by default)?

Our system also has the ADSL modem drivers installed for a standard USB modem (in case that info helps!).

Our previous attempt with a Sony Centrino WinXP Pro machine was also very hit & miss on the network - it seems to only want to see the network when it "feels like it!"

HELP is urgently req'd?

1. Why did you set a Domain setting when you are in a Workgroup?

2. Why did you include only one IP as "Trusted" by Zone Alarm. Do you think your Access Point/Router should not be trusted?

Resolve those two issues. If you find ZA confusing, get rid of it completely. At the very least your entire network IP range should be trusted, there should be no ZA filtering of any traffic by port or protocol. See the ZA web site for instructions and necessary settings.
