My computer was initially loaded with Win XP Pro. Then called corrupted and could boot fully. Decided to load Win2000 Proon it without formating the HDD. Then upgraded to Win XP and reloaded the MS Office applications.

Now, when the PC boots it shows dual boot, both Win XP, the old corrupt one and the newly installed. How can I get rid off the corrupt version so that my PC boots straight into the reloaded version?

While what Bourbaki says is correct in that editing the BOOT.INI file is preferable, and a better solution in the long run if you don't feel confident editing the BOOT.INI file, I would better just stick with the preferred operating system and 0 timeout, because screwing the boot.ini file can leave the computer unbootable.

Bootcfg from recovery console? -
Editing boot.ini is not difficult. You could always test it by making an XP 'boot floppy' (always handy to have anyway). Copy ntldr, ntdetect.com (from root of C:) and your boot.ini as you want it to a formatted floppy disk. This should boot your XP installation - if it does, just copy the boot.ini to the hard drive (root of C:).

Thanks you guys. Your suggetions were worthwhile. However, I have used Bourbaki's suggetion for now.

thanks,

Mike
