Win ME w/ AOL dialup is very slow

A client of mine has ME w/ AOL dialup service and access times are very slow. Normal operation of the computer is fine and is well maintained but access speed is about 4x's slower than xp w/ aol in same house. Any tips to speed up this connection.

What kind of modem are then using? This will be the key to it all. check for spyware by downloading ADWARE 5.8. Then make sure you don't have anything running in the back ground.

I have already done both things you suggested. However, I don't know the model of the modem. I'll have to get to that site to check it out. Any suggestions in the meantime.

The other thing is to make sure you have the latest version of AOL that will run on Windows ME. I would also try a standard drive for you modem that comes with Windows ME. When I had dial-up I fix several problems by doing that. Update your modem driver.
Is the system slow if you use IE?
