I have lost the ability to access the internet on one of the machines on a peer to peer network.(We are using DSL) I can still access everything else on the local network. And all the other computers work normally and can get on the internet.
Have tried:
Uninstalled everything on the configuation page for the network and reinstalled all of same.
Uninstall reinstall nic card
Uninstall Norton Virus software
reinstall IE6
Live Update also does not work
I have also used SFC to replace:
winsock.dll
wsock32.dll
rasapi32.dll

I also cannot access the Router by typing in its address in IE6. winipcfg does allow me to release and renew IP info
I have also tried a differnt port on the router.
Found no help in Microsoft Knowledge Base.

What next?

How is the ip address of the computers being asigned? Do they go through a router? To find out if you have a valid ip : start\run and type winipcfg . also find out if you can ping the other computers. Uninstalling and reinstalling the tcp/ip protocol might help but we need to know how you get your internet connection in the fist place. Is it through ics(internet connection sharing) , through the router using dhcp, or using a proxy server? I assume only one machine is directly connected to the internet. Thank you. My router is assigning the IP address. I Must of missed this before. In in the TCP/IP disscussion I found this answer and it solved the problem after 3 days of hell.
the problem was on the DNS side!!

you can also do it without the little proggie, goto - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ - and delete the winsock and winsock2 keys and also goto - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Vxd and delete the winsock keys their too. then remove tcp/ip from networking (that would be ALL instances) reboot and reinstall tcp/ip - reboot again and you'll be up and running. this can sometimes impress people who have no clue as to what you are doing! as a side note i sometimes see this happen alot with systems that have AOL on it.
