Hi,

One of the win 98 pc's here began thinking it is the master browser. The user is unable to connect to citrix because of it (Published apps, ICA connections work). It shows up in the server as an event id 8003. Everything I've found doesn't quite tell me everything I need to know. I know that the server is correctly set up as the master browser by checking reg keys. However, everything I read tells me to change reg keys on the 98 PC also but none of them have the ones for 98. I've found them for NT and 2000 but not 98. Anyone have any advice? I'm sure its something simple.
Thanks
Tom

I used to see this at a large number of sites I worked at - in one particular site, the Win9x PC in question was located in a different building on the other side of town!

The trouble is that Windows 9.x machines are automatically enabled to become browse master if none is found on startup. This is great for peer-to-peer, but a source of huge headaches in a client/server environment.

The settings for Windows 9x/Me is found at Start, Settings, Control Panel, Network, select File and Printer sharing...(not the button), Properties, Advanced, Browse Master. The available settings are Automatic, Enabled, and Disabled. The default setting is "Automatic."

Needless to say, this should be disabled on every 9.x machine.

This may also help

Thanks, that worked! I'll have to do that to the rest of the 98 machines now.
