I'm running win98 and whilst trying to get rid of some modem driver files i also deleted the system file vmm32.vxd - opps!
As i tried to start windows it wouldn't as this file was missing but i managed to get a copy of the file and put it back where it came from. Windows now starts fine but i can't shut it down, it restarts even though shut down is selected!
I've never had any shut down problems before with this machine.
Please help!!
Many thanks in advance.

I have the same problem.
When I shut down, it goes thru the motions & then immediately powers up and restarts.
The VMM32.VXD file mentioned above is in my windows\system directory.
Should I delete it and extract it again from the CD?
What else should I look for.

Hi,

It may be worth putting the shutdown shortcut on your desktops and try that rather than the old START / SHUTDOWN.

Checkout the FAQ, it takes you through it step by step, any problems drop me a line via the FAQ.
