I USE WINDOWS 98 FOR WITH MIDI SOFTWARE AND INTRUMENTS
I NEED TO SET IT UP FOR LPT1 TO USE NORMAL PRINTER DRIVER FOR THAT PORT. RIGHT NOW IT SAYS ECP printer port (LPT1)
AND ECP PRINTER PORT DRIVERS ARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH MIDI.
SO I NEED STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS TO GO IN AND CHANGE OR UPDATE THE DRIVER AND MAKE IT USE NORMAL PRINTER DRIVER(S).
PLEASE HELP !
* I GOT SOME INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE THEY SAID TO
UPDATE DRIVRS SELECT ECP PRINTER PORT AND CHOOSE PROPERTIES. HIT THE DRIVERS TAB AND THE UPDATE DRIVERS BUTTON. CHOOSE NO FOR AUTO SCAN, NEXT AND "SHOW ALL DRIVERS". I SHOULD SEE A PRINTER PORT DRIVER ON THE RH SIDE

I AM TOTALLY LOST I DONT EVEN KNOW WHERE TO FIND THE FIRST SCREEN LET ALONE ALL THE OTHER THINGS IM SUPPOSED TO BE LOOKING FOR.

Windows is installing the ECP driver because in your computers CMOS settings have the printer port set to ECP mode. When you first turn it on look for a message saying hit DEL to enter setup. The key you hit the the term used for "setup" varies depending on your computer, but you should see something along those lines.

Once in there you need to find the section that's usually called IO Ports or Intergrated Peripherals. Basically, you need to track down where the printer port mode is and change the mode to either EPP or BiDirectional, or anything that doesn't have ECP in the name of it. Exit the setup saving your changes and when the computer boots up again it should detect the printer port differently and install the basic driver.

Hope that helps.
