Hi,

I'm new to this forum, and Technical User may not be a good description for my expertise level.

I'm having a recurring problem with a Win 32 error. I've downloaded and run MS Windows Antispyware Beta, and it found no problems.

I wrote down the error info the last time it happened:

Generic Host Process for Win 32 services encountered a problem and needed to close.

szAppName: svchost.exe
szAppVersion: 0.0.0.0.
sz Modname unknown
sz Mod Version: 0.0.0.0
sz offset: 00000000

Thinking back, I think it usually happens when the computer is started. This AM, it said the error occurred at 3AM last night, when the computer was turned off.

If anyone can help me figure out what is going on, I'd be very happy. Expecially if you can use small words, and speak verrry slowwly. :-)

I'm using a Dell Dimension 2400.

Thanks for any assist!

Greg,

Thanks for the quick response! I checked out the page you suggested. I don't have an HP printer, though. I looked under the Printer and Scanner Settings. I've got a Canon MP730 Printer, Scanner, Fax setting, and a Lexmark Z43-Z43 ColorFineA printer loaded. I can remove the Lexmark until I need it.

Any opinions on whether the Lexmark might look like an HP driver? Do you think removing the Lexmark driver will fix this, or could it be something else?

The error details I got don't exactly match those listed for an HP printer problem.

Thanks again,

Kathleen

This is very likely malware.

Hi Kathleen,

Nope I don't think that the Lexmark drivers will be the problem.

From my research there seem to be many possible causes and solutions.

Take a look at the following google search page and go through a few of the pages to see if anything helps you

It's quite hard to diagnose because the modname is unknown, generally this will point to a specific file and we could trouble shoot it that way.
