Win 2000 Pro+shared drives not avaliable when network not in use

Hi,

I have as an individual stand alone network, 2 machines directly linked. on 1 computer there are certain files I have shared, now when both computers are on, both computers can access the shared files, (because i have them mapped as network drives) fine. But if only the computer with the shared drives are on, is switched on, it says it cant open the folders because no network is active. I had it set up fone before but then I had to reformat. Any ideas of getting it tp access the drives when no network is present?

The message is informative. But I suspect that what you want to do is to remove mapped drive letters to what are in fact local drives.

Let say I share folder c:\winnt\simoncarter2003

I then, on the machine physicaly with c:\winnt\simoncarter2003 do a:

net use y: \\simoncarter\simoncarter2003

I know use as drive letter Y my on local physical share as a network resource.

Remedy:

. Either ignore the message, (it is informative only)
. Do not map Persistant shares; "do not 'Reconnect at logon';
. Do not create local resources as network resources.

thanks, but if i wanted the share there constantly, and it usable when no network is active, how can i manage that? because although the message is informative only, it does not allow me to open the mapped drive

I have already tried sharing and then mapping the drives while no network is present in case that works, for those of you that were wondering
