ok, the building had to do some work with the power so everything had to be shut off for the weekend. when i came back to turn on my computer on monday, it starts to boot windows 2000, but when the status bar hits full, it locks up. the keyboard and mouse wont even work. I tried in safe mode and it still locks up. I tried booting from the windows 2000 cd in order to reinstall, and it loads all the nesicary drivers, etc.... and locks up before it starts the setup process, when it says starting windows 2000. does anyone know what the problem could be? Im assuming its an hardware issue. Maybe the HD or the motherboard. I could use some insight.
thank you,
eric

Check your processor fan and ensure its cooling. Sounds like its getting to hot and causing the computer to lock up. If your going to look at the motherboard you can look around and see if any capacitors are swelling as thats a sign of a board going bad or one that is bad. Also ensure the system fans and everything else are cleaned out. A fan full of dust is almost if not as bad as not having a fan on it at all for the airflow cant get to it. So give these things a try and let me know what you find. Hopefully it helps.

what do the capacitors look like? and where are they located on the board?

hey man, i basically took apart the computer, blew into the processer fan a few times and put everything back together. I started it up and the thing actually booted up. Thank you so much for the suggestions. It was a real help. Thank you again.
p.s. I noticed you saw my other post in the HW section =)
