win 2000 clients cannot locate nt domain controller or wins server

win 2000 clients cannot locate win nt 4 sp6a domain controller or wins server. if lmhosts file is edited with wins and pdc info then they can logon and find domain

clients can ping pdc but cannot logon to it. only local cache logons to workstations is ok. win xp clients can see domain and logon. any ideas?

CHECK YOUR WINS DATABASE, DELETE ANY RECORDS FOR THE PDC AND RESTART IT, ALSO QHUERY THE DOMAIN NAME SEE WHAST RECORDS IT BRINGS BACK
