What do you mean? XP Pro is a client OS, BE 9.1 is a server backup solution . . . . .

I believe I tried to install an earlier version of Backup Exec on a non-server operating system and had no luck. Just to verify, I went to Veritas's site. It makes no mention of XP as an acceptable operating system...

You are looking in the wrong spot - the software compaitbility list shows that XP can be a media server.
And for the record, I have tried this out and it does work.
