I have a cisco local director 417.
I have 2 sets of servers - a primary set and a failover set: internet1 and internet2, extranet1 and extranet2
internet1 and internet2 and extranet1 are all in the same building in the same office however extranet2 is located at a different site in a different part of the city.
The local director has been configured to failover to the backup servers if port 80 fails. both extranet and internet settings in localdirector are the same.
The failover of the internet servers works perfectly but for some reason the extranet tries to failover but doesnt seem to connect successfully to the extranet2 server at the other site. I have added a route to the local director and can successfully ping the extranet2 server from both the local director and from the servers at the primary site.
I am thus confused to why the failover cannot occur to the extranet2 server from the local director as the settings are exactly the same (I have checked the configuration over and over). The only thing that differs from the internet server failover (which works perfectly) and the extranet failover is that the seconed extranet server is at a different site and the packets have to be routed to get there which may effect the local director? I can even see that it is trying to connect to the extranet2 server but unsuccessfully.
Will and routers or network devices effect the way the local director works - does anyone have any ideas to where the problem may lie?
Help most appreciated!!
Thanks,
Barry.
