Will DNS eliminate bcasts or help an XP Home TCP/IP peer to peer LAN?

I will be setting up a peer to peer network composed of XP Home clients and one Linux Samba file/printer server. The server will also run DHCP and the network protocol will be TCP/IP.

Will the XP Home clients interact with a DNS or WINS server at all or will they just immediately resort to bcasts to resolve network computer names?

Will the XP Home clients or the DHCP Linux server register their computer names with a DNS or WINS server?

Should I even bother setting up DNS or WINS on the Linux server?

Thanks for any tips on increasing the performance of this small LAN!
