We use Outlook Express on our home computer, and have used it for some time. In the past, after the computer had been shut down or restarted and then opened Outlook Express for the first time you would be asked to choose an identity (we have three different ones). Recently, it is automatically opening whichever one was used last, just as if you had not shut down the computer. Did microsoft change something? I did just download some "critical updates". We are using Windows 98. Has anyone else come across this?

It was nothing MS did - at least not intentionally ;)

In OE, go to File, Identities, Manage Identities, look for a setting like 'when starting ... always ask'. I'm not at a mult-identity machine so the wording may not be quite right.

Yes
This has happened to me - on a system running ME, but I do not know what caused it to happen - I had not included any updates. I did have a similar problem recently in which OE always opened with the same identity and wouldn't switch between them without falling over and having to be re-started first. It then opened in the identity to which I was trying to switch. I solved this by installing the cumulative update pack (OE6) issued last October (I think).
